Plus size boudoir detroit sessions at my Ferndale studio start the same way every session does. You arrive. We talk. I do your hair and makeup. And then I spend the next few hours showing you something you haven’t been able to see in the mirror. Let’s skip the part where I tell you that all bodies are beautiful and get to the part that actually matters.
You’ve been thinking about doing this. Maybe for a while. And somewhere in that thinking, a voice has been telling you to wait. Wait until you lose the weight. Wait until you feel more confident. Wait until you look more like the women you’ve seen in boudoir photos.
That voice is wrong. And I’m going to show you why.
I’m Magan Rogers, a boudoir photographer based in Ferndale, Michigan. I’ve photographed women of every size, shape, age, and comfort level at my private Detroit area studio. Plus size boudoir is not a specialty category for me; it’s just boudoir. Because every body that walks through my studio door deserves the same quality of experience, the same careful posing, the same light, and the same result: images that make you stop and stare at yourself in a way you never have before.
What Actually Happens in the Studio
You arrive. I’m a licensed stylist so I handle your hair and makeup personally before we ever pick up a camera. We talk, we ease in, and I learn what you want to feel in these photos.
Then I guide every single pose. Not a generic pose that works for some bodies and not others; a pose that works for yours specifically. I adjust constantly throughout the session, checking angles, checking light, checking in with you. You will never be left to figure out what to do with your body. That’s my job.
I’ve photographed enough bodies to know that the most stunning images don’t come from the smallest ones. They come from the women who let themselves be fully present; who stop sucking in, stop hiding, stop performing, and just exist in front of the camera for a few hours. That’s where the magic is.
What to Wear
Wear what makes you feel like yourself. Full stop.
Lace, silk, an oversized sweater, a bodysuit, your partner’s shirt. Boudoir doesn’t have a dress code and it especially doesn’t have a size requirement for what looks good on camera. Bring 3 to 5 options and we’ll talk through them together before we start.
If you’re not sure what to bring, reach out before your session. I’ll help you figure it out.
The Part About Your Body
I’m not going to spend a lot of time here because I don’t think you need a lecture on body positivity from a photographer. What I will say is this.
The women who come in most nervous about their bodies are almost always the ones who leave most blown away by their photos. Not because I did anything magic; because I showed them what was already there. The light hits differently on curves. The shapes are interesting. The presence is powerful. You don’t need to change anything to be worth photographing.
You just need to show up.
The Investment
The session fee is $750 which comes off your total collection. Most clients invest between $3,200 and $6,000 depending on the artwork, albums, and images they choose. Payment plans are available through Affirm, Klarna, and an in-house 0% interest option.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is plus size boudoir different from a regular boudoir session? No. The experience is identical; the posing is guided, hair and makeup is included, the studio is private, and the reveal happens the same day. What changes is that I’m attentive to what works specifically for your body throughout the session; angles, lighting, and positioning that are calibrated to you rather than a generic template.
What if I’ve never done anything like this before? Most of my clients haven’t. You don’t need experience in front of a camera or confidence in your body right now. Both of those things tend to show up on their own once the session gets going.
Is hair and makeup really included? Yes with every session. I’m a licensed stylist so I handle everything personally. You arrive with a fresh face and clean dry hair and I take it from there.
Will the images stay private? Completely. Nothing is ever shared publicly without your explicit written permission. Many clients keep their sessions entirely private and that is fully respected.
How far in advance should I book? Most clients book 6 to 8 weeks out. If you have a specific date in mind, reach out as early as possible to secure it.
Where is the studio? 800 Hilton Rd, Ferndale, Michigan; private, easy parking, easy to reach from Detroit, Royal Oak, Birmingham, and Ann Arbor.
