Boudoir Over 40 in Detroit: This Is Actually Your Time
There’s a story a lot of women tell themselves about their 40s and their body. That the window has closed. That boudoir is for younger women, different bodies, a different version of themselves they left behind somewhere in their 30s.
That story is wrong. And I can prove it.
Some of the most powerful sessions I’ve ever photographed have been women over 40. Not in spite of their age — because of it. There’s a quality of presence that comes from a woman who has lived in her body for four decades. Who has carried things, survived things, rebuilt things. Who shows up not performing confidence but actually having it, even if she doesn’t feel it yet when she walks through the door.
The camera sees all of that. Every single time.
What Changes After 40
The nervousness is still there — that part doesn’t change. But something else is usually there too. A clarity about what matters. A tiredness with shrinking. A readiness to be seen that younger clients are still working their way toward.
Women over 40 tend to move through the session differently. They trust faster. They let go sooner. They’re less concerned with performing and more willing to just be — and that shows up in the images in a way that’s genuinely breathtaking.
What to Expect at My Ferndale Studio
You arrive at my private studio. I’m a licensed stylist so I handle your hair and makeup personally before we shoot — you arrive with a fresh face and clean dry hair and I take it from there.
We talk before we pick up the camera. What you want, what you’re nervous about, what this session means to you right now. That conversation matters. It sets the tone for everything that follows.
Then I guide every pose. Where to put your hands, how to angle your body, what to do with your expression. Nothing is left for you to figure out. You just show up and let me show you what I see.
After the session you’ll do a private image reveal and choose your favorites. Most women over 40 say that moment — seeing themselves on the screen — is the part they didn’t expect. The part that shifts something.

What to Bring
Bring what makes you feel like yourself. That might be lace lingerie, a silk robe, an oversized cashmere sweater, or something that belongs to someone you love. There’s no rule about what boudoir over 40 has to look like.
Bring 3-5 options and we’ll talk through them together before we start.
You Don’t Have to Have It All Figured Out
Most women who book this session at 40, 50, or beyond say some version of the same thing when they inquire: “I’ve been thinking about this for years but I kept waiting until I lost the weight, toned up, felt more ready.”
There is no more ready. There is only now — the body you’re in, the life you’ve built, the woman you actually are today. That’s what deserves to be documented.
The weight loss goal can wait. This can’t.
The Investment
The session fee is $750 which comes off your total collection. Most clients invest between $3,200 and $6,000 depending on the artwork, albums, and images they choose. Payment plans are available through Affirm, Klarna, and an in-house 0% interest option.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is boudoir photography right for women over 40? It’s right for any woman who wants to be seen. Age is genuinely not a factor in how powerful these sessions are. If anything, the sessions I’ve photographed with women in their 40s, 50s, and beyond have been some of the most moving work I’ve ever done.
What if I’m not comfortable with my body right now? That’s exactly why you book the session — not after you’ve fixed something, but now. The posing, the lighting, and the way I work with your body during the session are all designed to show you something you haven’t been able to see in the mirror. Most women leave saying they wish they’d done it sooner.
Do I have to wear lingerie? No. Wear whatever makes you feel like yourself — a silk robe, an oversized sweater, your favorite dress, or nothing at all. The session is built entirely around your comfort level.
Is hair and makeup included? Yes with every session. I’m a licensed stylist so I handle everything personally. You arrive with a fresh face and clean dry hair and I take care of the rest before we ever pick up a camera.
How long is the session? Most sessions run 3-4 hours from the time you arrive for hair and makeup through your image reveal. There’s no rushing.
Where is the studio? 800 Hilton Rd, Ferndale, Michigan — private, easy parking, easy to reach from Detroit, Royal Oak, Birmingham, and Ann Arbor.
